"People are complicated"
in a conciliatory fashion
handing it to me like a pacifier
an absurd and inappropriate nipple of comfort
he knows his words are true because he wants conflicting things
desperately
with every bit of himself
fully and wholly but he cannot have these things
not both of them
not in this world
and he does not know which
is the right choice
and I can't breathe a word of advice
because I don't know either.
