First Snow

(To be read in a voice dripping with sarcasm or earnestness -- season to taste)

My heart lay dormant
Frozen - untouched -
A pine cone encased in ice and buried in a ditch

and then there was you

your soft tread awoke within me
One simple spark

The flowers that sprung from your footprints in the dead of winter
revived my lungs
My heart beat for their beauty

And now --

If I stood at the heart of a snow storm
And let the flurries turn my fingers blue it would be easier than finding the words to confess the truth
To say the timeless three syllables so simple and true

The thing is (insert her name) I'm in love with you
