Sixth Poem

I used to be a mermaid

Doing laps in the bathtub

Waves white capped in strawberry scented bubbles

The long flowing hair that swam around me simultaneously

A cloak and halo

Jet black

A pink tail

With scales that sparkled in the light of

Those fish with the lightbulbs

Deep in the sea

I sang river songs

Dreaming of fast flowing waters

While I somersaulted in calm oceans

Saving Atlantis from the aquatic threat

Of Stingrays, Sharks, or other ugly creatures

But, now the bubbles are still

They smell more like spice than berries

Womanly

Old

Tea lights encased in glass replace

The Angler fish

And

I sit and prune

I’ve taught my body to be still

So now,

It’s just my mind that swims
